Banned and recognized as extremist in Russia, Meta has found a partner to create new Quest Pro VR headsets. The information was confirmed at different times by a couple of sources: Maeil Business Newspaper and SBS Biz.
According to them, the first product created under the partnership is expected in 2025. Its price will be about $2 thousand.
The displays for the mixed reality glasses will reportedly be supplied by LG Electronics. On the side of the South Korean concern, there are also batteries authored by LG Energy, as well as a host of other device components that another related vendor, LG Innotek, undertakes to produce.
As for the name of the future device, the authors of reports and analysts quite often make mistakes in naming. But at the same time, they accurately describe the product with about the same high frequency. So the Quest 4 Pro headset name promised by industry experts may not come true.
Collaboration with large third-party manufacturers in the creation of consumer electronics is a common case, including specifically in the development of VR headsets.
For example, Oculus Go was made by Xiaomi specialists. Another version – Oculus Rift S – was entrusted to Lenovo. I note that in both of these cases, the developers left the partner’s logo on the side of the headset. It is quite logical to assume that the LG logo can be seen on the Quest Pro profile.
I could turn to the South Korean company Meta in the hope of fast processes and high volumes. You need to hurry, because next year, I remind you, Apple is preparing to enter the market with its Vision Pro. Its $3,500 device uses Sony’s ultra-high-resolution OLED microdisplays.
