The mixed martial arts club “Varyag” from Novomoskovsk won three medals at the Russian Cup, which was held on September 22-23 at the Omsk G-DRIVE Arena.
Students of Stanislav Bogdanov showed excellent results. In the preliminary matches, the winner of this year’s Russian Championship, Alexandra Kiper, and the winners of the 2023 Russian Championship, Alena Ignatieva and Polina Baldina, qualified for the finals. As a result, Alexandra Kiper and Alena Ignatieva took home gold, and Polina Baldina took silver.
The Russian Cup is one of the most important tournaments of the season. It brings together the best fighters from all over the country who show high training and fortitude in uncompromising confrontations. In total, 200 athletes from 29 regions of Russia took part in the competition.
The head coach of the Varyag club, Stanislav Bogdanov, expressed his gratitude to the Tula Region Federation and personally to the president of the sports organization, deputy of the Tula Regional Duma Ilya Stepanov for organizing and financing the trip.
“This season shows how the Russian athlete is developing under new conditions. In the absence of international competitions, our guys find motivation to move forward and show the best results.
In this sense, it is gratifying to follow the successes of our team. Over the course of the year, we have improved our results. And this is a great merit of coach Stanislav Bogdanov, who trains strong and purposeful athletes. They grow in skill, glorify their city of Novomoskovsk, our Federation and the Tula region,” said Ilya Stepanov.
