The purpose of the BRICS New Development Bank is to protect the trade and economic relations of the union from the impact of sanctions from unfriendly countries. About it told Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Bank President Dilma Rousseff.
“And we see one of the main goals of the bank in protecting the trade and economic relations of the BRICS countries from the influence of illegitimate sanctions from the collective West. We are convinced that the restart of the bank, which you started, will be successful, and this will allow it to adapt its work to new realities and successfully withstand modern challenges,”declared Mishustin (quote from Interfax).
Mishustin also conveyed to Rousseff, who was previously President of Brazil, the congratulations of the President of the Russian Federation on his appointment as head of the New Development Bank. “I am sure that under your leadership the New Development Bank will be able to successfully fulfill the functions assigned to it. First of all, this is necessary to increase the international prestige of the bank, expand operating activities, including in our country,” Mikhail Mishustin emphasized.
From the activities of the bank, Russia expects the strengthening of investment cooperation in the BRICS format, the promotion of promising projects in various fields, as well as the emergence of new points of growth for the national economies of the five states.
Russia will chair the BRICS in 2024. According to the Russian government, the goal of its work will be to “solve international and regional problems, form a just and democratic multipolar world.”
On the evening of May 22, Mishustin arrived on an official visit to China. Today, May 23, the prime minister spoke at the plenary session of the Russian-Chinese Business Forum in Shanghai, visited the Sinopec Petrochemistry Research Institute in Shanghai. As part of his official visit to China, Mishustin is also scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
