Mishustin ordered to check educational diplomas of presidential candidates

The government has instructed to check the level of education and educational diplomas of presidential candidates for the 2024 elections. This is stated in the list instructions for ministries and departments, which was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The government instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs to verify and provide the Central Election Commission (CEC) with personal data of presidential candidates, criminal records, as well as applications for renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship, if necessary.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, among other things, needs to suppress illegal campaigning activities and the distribution of illegal election materials, the document says. The Ministry of Internal Affairs was also instructed to “strengthen the protection of public order” in Crimea, Krasnodar Territory, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk and Rostov regions.
A separate instruction talks about strengthening security in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Authorities in these regions must also provide backup voting facilities.
The government instructed the Ministry of Justice to provide the Central Election Commission with information about whether a candidate is a foreign agent, and the Prosecutor General’s Office to strengthen measures to counter terrorism, extremism and the law on information protection. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the FSB and other departments must also “immediately suppress extremist activities.”
On December 4, the Federation Council adopted a resolution calling elections for March 17, 2024, thereby giving the official start to the presidential campaign. December 8 Central Election Commission presented logo of the upcoming presidential elections: the Latin letter V, painted in the Russian tricolor, and the inscription “Russian Presidential Elections March 15–17, 2024.” Current Russian President Vladimir Putin today announced his intention to nominate his candidacy.
