Kuleba: IOC allowed Russia to use the Olympics as a weapon

The International Olympic Committee, by allowing Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris in a neutral status, thereby “gave Russia the green light to use the Olympic Games as a weapon.” This statement was made on Friday, December 8, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.
According to the Ukrainian politician, “The Kremlin will use every Russian and Belarusian athlete as a weapon in its propaganda war.”
Kuleba called on all Ukraine’s partners to “strongly condemn this shameful decision, which undermines the Olympic principles.”
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the Russian sports family “is being tested for cohesion and loyalty to the true principles of sport.” The IOC demonstrated that “Games can be used as a tool of political pressure in relation to people who have nothing to do with politics,” the head of state indicated.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the belated publication of criteria for the admission of athletes from Russia, said that “nothing surprises her for a long time, since I know the goal of those who do this – cause us as much damage as possible in everything“.
