Mishustin meets with Xi Jinping

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was announced by presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, write “RIA News”.

As Ushakov noted, the meeting between Mishustin and Xi Jinping should take place in the morning. He recalled that these negotiations were preceded by the 27th regular meeting of the heads of government of the two countries in December 2022, during which Mishustin indicated the readiness of Moscow and Beijing to jointly resist growing external pressure, since Russia and China are interested in each other’s prosperity.

Earlier, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the main day of the state visit of the President of China was scheduled for March 21, on which negotiations would take place in a narrow and expanded format, as well as the signing of documents and statements for the media. The official welcome ceremony will begin at approximately 15:00 Moscow time.

According to Ushakov, the first round of negotiations on March 21 will be representative. The narrow composition is expected to include Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, head of Roskosmos Yuri Borisov, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov and Ushakov himself. The extended membership will also include six vice-premiers, presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin, economic development minister Maxim Reshetnikov, transport minister Vitaly Savelyev, finance minister Anton Siluanov, and Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev.

Xi Jinping arrived to Russia the day before, on March 20, at the same time he had an informal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Peskov, it lasted 4.5 hours. During an informal meeting, the leaders of the two countries exchanged opinions about the situation in Ukraine and in the world. Xi Jinping will visit Moscow until March 22.
