Mishustin approved the plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved the plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) until 2035, the press service of the Cabinet reported.

In total, the plan includes 150 measures, which are included in five key sections: cargo base, transport infrastructure, cargo and icebreaker fleet, safety of navigation along the Northern Sea Route, as well as management and development of navigation along the NSR. 1.8 trillion rubles were allocated for the implementation of the plan.

The task of preparing a plan for the development of the NSR until 2035 was outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The strategic document was developed on behalf of Prime Minister Mishustin. And his deputy Yuri Trutnev supervised the preparation of the plan.

“We need to build new icebreakers, rescue and auxiliary vessels, create terminals for major investment projects being implemented. All this large-scale work is divided into separate sections. Each direction is scheduled by year with the appropriate sources of funding,” Trutnev commented on the NSR development project.

The document was created to ensure the safe transportation of goods along the NSR for people living in the Far North. The press service also explained that the government is going to implement investment projects in the Arctic.

Separately, the importance of developing the NSR in connection with anti-Russian sanctions is emphasized. The Northern Sea Route is going to be used for the supply of Russian products to friendly countries and the import of necessary goods to Russia.

Earlier, the Russian government created the main department of the Northern Sea Route. It will organize the passage of ships, issue and revoke navigation permits. The founder of the new structure will be the state corporation “Rosatom“.
