Mirziyoyev takes office as President of Uzbekistan

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who won the early presidential elections in Uzbekistan, took office. About it informs TASS.

The ceremony was held in the building of the Senate (upper house of parliament) of the republic. CEC Chairman Zainiddin Nizamkhodzhaev presented Mirziyoyev with a presidential certificate. Then the re-elected head of state approached the podium and, putting his hand on the Constitution and the Koran, took the oath, the agency reports. Mirziyoyev became president of Uzbekistan for the third time.

The presidential elections in Uzbekistan were held ahead of schedule on July 9. By 11:00, the elections were recognized as valid, since the turnout exceeded the required threshold and amounted to 33.54%. Voting ended at 20:00 (18:00 Moscow time) on the same day.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev won victory in the elections with 87.05% of the vote with a turnout of 79.8% (15.6 million citizens of the country). The candidate from the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” (“Justice”), the first deputy chairman of the Supreme Court Robakhon Makhmudova (she won 4.43% of the vote), the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (NDPU) Ulugbek Inoyatov (4, 02%) and leader of the Ecological Party Abdushukur Khamzaev (3.74%).

Russian President Vladimir Putin July 10 congratulated his colleague for re-election. First, he sent him a congratulatory telegram, in which he called Mirziyoyev’s victory convincing and noted that this indicates the broad support of the people for the policies of the current president. Then Putin spent a telephone conversation with Mirziyoyev, in which he again congratulated the re-elected president.

In May, the Uzbek constitution was amended to give Mirziyoyev the right to run for office twice more. If he wins the next election, he will be able to lead the country until 2037. Mirziyoyev’s mandate expired in 2026 before the changes were made.
