Mironov proposed increasing the sentences for damage to railway tracks during the Northern Military District to 20 years

The leader of the party “A Just Russia – for Truth” Sergei Mironov believes that in the Russian Federation it is necessary to increase the punishment for damage to transport infrastructure, including railway tracks, on the instructions of a foreign state during the outbreak of hostilities. He believes that such crimes should be punishable by actual imprisonment for up to 20 years.

According to information TASSthe politician, together with his fellow Fair Russians, has already developed a corresponding bill and in the near future this document will be submitted to the lower house of parliament.

Mr. Mironov and a number of other deputies from A Just Russia propose to tighten the sanction of Article 267 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Making vehicles or means of communication unusable.” It now provides for imprisonment for up to one year. The authors of the draft law consider it necessary to increase the maximum sentence to 20 years, and the minimum to 12 years (provided that the crime was committed on the instructions of foreign curators). Parliamentarians note that during the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the number of intentional damage to railway tracks increased significantly, but such acts are only “in extremely rare cases interpreted as sabotage.” In this regard, the Social Revolutionaries call for strengthening penalties under the “core” criminal article.

Last December, State Duma deputies approved amendments to the legislation providing for up to life imprisonment for organizing and financing sabotage, as well as for involving other persons in such activities. For inducement, recruitment or involvement in the commission of sabotage, the law now provides for punishment from eight to 15 years (from ten to 20 when using an official position) or life imprisonment. Complicity in sabotage is punishable by imprisonment from ten to 20 years: the document defines it as intentionally facilitating a crime with “advice, instructions, provision of information, means or tools,” as well as a promise to hide the criminal.
