Minsk declared parity with Europe thanks to Russian tactical nuclear weapons

The deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) on Belarusian territory allowed the republic to form a strategic parity with the states of Western Europe. This statement was made on Monday, August 7, by Andrei Savinykh, chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
The politician stressed that by these actions “we nullified all NATO’s efforts to build up military potential in our region.”
At the same time, Savinykh pointed out that Moscow and Minsk are not trying to “compete with the NATO bloc”, which together spends over a trillion dollars on weapons, while the Belarusian military budget is only $500 million, and the Russian one is about $80 billion.
Nevertheless, the nuclear potential makes it possible to ensure strategic invulnerability and equalize the difference in military potentials between countries, the politician, quoted by BelTA, emphasized.
Earlier, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said he hoped avoid the use of nuclear weapons to protect the country, but acknowledged that this ensures the security of his state.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the withdrawal of Russian tactical nuclear weapons (TNW) from Belarus is possible if the United States and NATO stop their aggressive coursethe purpose of which is to deliberately undermine the security of Russia and Belarus.
