President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with the national team of Tatarstan participating in the Special Olympics Uniform Games. The opening ceremony of the Games took place on January 22 at Kazan Expo. Minnikhanov talked to the athletes and wished them successful performance. There are 126 participants in the Tatarstan team, including 95 athletes and 18 coaches. They will compete in 15 disciplines. The President of Tatarstan was accompanied by Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin and President of the Russian Special Olympics Olga Slutsker. The head of the republic stressed that the Special Olympics Unified Games are a large-scale and important event. According to Minnikhanov, such competitions should be held every year. “I assure you that all projects related to Special Games and other issues will be considered more carefully. We will give the same instruction to the cities and regions of the republic,” said the President of Tatarstan. The Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin thanked the authorities of Tatarstan and Kazan for the high level of organization of the United Games. The Unified Games of Special Olympics include competitions in ten summer and eight winter sports. More than 1.5 thousand athletes with disabilities from 59 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus take part in them.
