The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has developed a draft law aimed at excluding the possibility for foreigners to obtain migration status in the Russian Federation through fictitious marriages or establishing paternity. TASS department representative Irina Volk.
“Currently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has developed a draft federal law aimed at improving migration legislation in terms of excluding the use of fictitious marriages and fictitious establishing paternity for foreign citizens or stateless persons to illegally obtain migration status on the territory of the Russian Federation,” Ms. Volk said.
She noted that now the law is at the stage of interdepartmental coordination. According to her, over the 11 months of 2022, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued about 400 decisions to cancel residence permits in the Russian Federation for foreigners who had previously married a Russian citizen.
According to the current legislation, foreigners and stateless persons can apply for simplified admission to Russian citizenship if they have been married to a citizen of the Russian Federation for at least three years or if there is a common child in the family.
In November, the head of the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Valentina Kazakova informedthat since the beginning of 2022, 220 facts of fictitious marriage registration have been identified.
