The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Ossetia has published an appeal to citizens who intend to cross the land border of the Russian Federation with Georgia by car. The department’s statement says that due to the large number of people wishing to travel from Russian territory to Georgian territory through the Upper Lars checkpoint, a huge traffic jam has formed on the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

“A total of about 2,300 units (cars – MK). In this regard, at present, movement through the customs point is difficult,” the statement said.

In connection with the current situation, the “State traffic inspectorate of the republic recommends refraining from traveling outside the Russian Federation,” and also asks “to be understanding of the current situation on the roads and strictly observe” traffic rules.

According to Yandex Maps, the length of the traffic jam in a straight line exceeds 15 km. According to social media reports, waiting times in traffic jams are already over 40 hours and increasing.
