Ministry of Health: every 15th Russian has diabetes

The number of patients with diabetes in Russia today is about 10.5 million people, the Ministry of Health reported. That is, every 15th Russian suffers from this disease. According to official statistics, in 2021 the number of diabetics in the Russian Federation was 5.2 million.
“The number of patients with diabetes in the Russian Federation is steadily increasing and, according to official statistics, in 2021 it reached 5.2 million people, including more than 50 thousand children (of which 42.5 thousand are children with disabilities) . At the same time, according to expert estimates, the actual number of diabetic patients today is about 10.5 million people, ”the Ministry of Health said (quoted by TASS).
The department noted that diabetes remains one of the leading causes of disability. There is concern about the rise in deaths from diabetes. According to Rosstat, this indicator increased by 22% in 2020. At the same time, the main cause of death is cardiovascular diseases, which, in combination with diabetes, increase the risk of stroke, complete loss of vision, uremia, and gangrene of the lower extremities.
Government to help diabetics developed new federal project “Fight against diabetes”. Money for it will be allocated from the budget of the future “three-year period”. In April, Vladimir Putin instructed to implement from this year additional measures for the timely diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in the Russian Federation.
