The Ministry of Culture of Chechnya refused to deprive the title of People’s Artist of singer Valery Meladze after publishing a video from a concert in Dubai, in which he allegedly says “Glory to the Heroes” in response to the remark “Glory to Ukraine.” The Ministry of Culture of the Republic told the publication “Climb”that Mr. Meladze has the right to “oppose the war.”
“The Chechen Republic stands for the integrity of Russia, against international terrorism, for stability, for the policy of the country’s leadership, and so far such moments have not been touched by him. The fact that Meladze spoke out against the war, he has the right, ”the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic told the publication.
The ministry noted that there was no mention of the president or the Chechen Republic in Valery Meladze’s speech. “We all oppose war, we all want everyone to live in peace and harmony. The question of depriving him of the title of people’s artist is not yet worth it, ”concluded the Ministry of Culture.
Earlier, several Telegram channels distributed a video from Valery Meladze’s New Year’s concert in Dubai. On it, the author of the video says to the singer “Glory to Ukraine”, after which he removes the microphone and answers something. The author calls him “handsome” in response. The singer’s phrase was not captured on video. In social networks, it was suggested that Mr. Meladze said: “Glory to the heroes.”
Commenting on the video, the singer stated that he does not want to hate anyone and does not try to please anyone. “I only dream of antagonism ending and harmony established between close peoples. And for this I am ready to give all my strength,” added Mr. Meladze.
After the publication of the video, member of the Federation Council Elena Afanasyeva suggested to deprive Valery Meladze of Russian citizenship, and State Duma deputy Andrei Lugovoi turned to Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov with a request to give a legitimate assessment to the singer’s actions.
