Minister Falkov signed an order to dismiss the director of ISKRAN Garbuzov

Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov signed an order to dismiss the director of the Institute for the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISKRAN) Valery Garbuzov. He had previously written a column criticizing “total government propaganda”.

“After the publication of an article by Valery Nikolaevich Garbuzov in Nezavisimaya Gazeta on August 29, 2023, an order was issued by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation V. N. Falkov to terminate the employment contract with Valery Nikolaevich in connection with the adoption of such a decision by the authorized owner of the organization’s property in accordance with paragraph 2 of the first part of Article 278 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, ”the institute said (quote from TASS).

Who will head the institute after Valery Garbuzov has not yet been reported there. Sergei Kislitsyn has been appointed acting director.

The dismissal of Mr. Garbuzov from the post of director became known on September 2. Then he confirmedthat the employment contract was terminated at the initiative of the founder.

August 29 at “Independent newspaper” Valery Garbuzov’s column was published. In it, he called modern Russia “the heir to the Soviet superpower, experiencing an extremely painful syndrome of suddenly lost imperial greatness”, and also wrote about its population, which “with amazing ease, naively and thoughtlessly perceives the theses of total state propaganda.”
