Mini-data centers can take a third of the market and appear next to every home

The share of mini-data centers in the total volume of calculations by 2035 will be 30%. We are talking about small data centers, which, unlike corporate and commercial data centers for tens of thousands of servers, can be installed together with base stations near residential buildings or industrial enterprises, as well as in crowded areas. The forecast for the growth in the share of such devices is given in the draft Strategy for the Development of the Communications Industry in the Russian Federation for 2024-2035 (Vedomosti reviewed the document).

In Russia, there is still no clearly formed market for mini-data centers, as well as an established definition of “mini-data center” or “micro-data center”. Now the share of mini-data centers accounts for only 2-3% of the total volume of calculations, says Fedor Klimenko, CEO of a large mini-data center operator GreenMDC. The market volume in 2022 amounted to approximately 1 billion rubles, he specified. According to Mikhail Mysov, head of the project office for the construction of a data center at Linxdatacenter, such data centers perform 5–10% of calculations.
