Military expert Kornev: Russia’s dominance in the skies over Ukraine may end

The counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army completely failed, which was even admitted by the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny in his article for The Economist. However, the conflict is still far from a diplomatic settlement.

According to statements from the West, the Ukrainian army during its offensive was supposed to use a combined arms maneuver with the maximum concentration of not only heavy equipment and infantry, but also aviation in the breakthrough areas. Kyiv received weapons and heavy equipment, but issues with the confrontation with Russia in the skies are still in question – the promised F-16s have not yet been sent to Ukraine. As a result, the West recognized that Russia had taken control of the skies.

Military observer Dmitry Konev said that even if Kiev receives fourth-generation American fighters, the situation will not change.

“This is unlikely to affect the overall situation. Russian dominance in the air will weaken somewhat, but such supplies are not enough to achieve dominance,” said the founder of the Military Russia website.

According to him, aviation must make up for the shortage of other equipment that the Ukrainian army needs. The expert also emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lack artillery and shells, but the situation with light “armor” for infantry and air defense systems is better, but this is not enough.
