Military expert Knutov announced the failed experience of using the Patriot air defense system

Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which the United States promises to transfer to Ukraine, are difficult to maintain and must be combined with other systems in order to effectively work on low-flying targets, which, in general, can nullify the whole idea of ​​​​supplying them, said URA.RU director of the Air Defense Forces Museum Yuri Knutov.

“Patriot work, as a rule, in conjunction with other air defense systems capable of operating at low altitudes,” the expert recalled, citing the example of the joint use of the American system with the French Crotale. However, the expert notes, as the experience of military operations has shown, at one time the Saudis were able to break through such a bundle and strike at oil refineries. In that situation, in 2019, the publication clarifies, Patriot failed to cope with the attack of homemade drones in Saudi Arabia.

“The second is the complexity of maintenance. The Ukrainian crew will not be able to carry out these routine maintenance, ”the expert pointed out.

However, he noted, there is another problem of a delicate nature: the Americans are afraid of the seizure of their system, which will inevitably lead to the leakage of military technology – “the United States is very worried about this.”
