Komsomolskaya Pravda war correspondent Alexander Kots, who was added to the Human Rights Council (HRC) by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, commented on the decision. According to him, this is due to the problems that the special operation in Ukraine revealed. He stated that he had previously dealt with such issues.

“These are different moments both with the regular military and with the mobilized. I dealt with them non-publicly, to the best of my ability. I hope that now there will be more opportunities to defend human rights in uniform,” Alexander Kots told the publication. NEWS.ru. The correspondent said that he plans to discuss with Vladimir Putin the problems of the military and mobilized, including their training, equipment, as well as difficulties in obtaining the due payments.

Alexander Kots has been working as a correspondent for the political department of Komsomolskaya Pravda since 1999. The journalist mainly covered military conflicts, in particular in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria. After the start of the special operation, he works in the war zone in Ukraine. In October, Canada imposed sanctions on Alexander Kots for “involvement in the dissemination of Russian disinformation and propaganda.”

Today, November 17, Vladimir Putin by his decree updated composition of the HRC. Journalists Nikolai Svanidze, Yekaterina Vinokurova, Ivan Zasursky, and Igor Kalyapin, founder of the Committee Against Torture, were excluded from it. Among the new members of the council are Alexei Melnikov, executive secretary of the Public Monitoring Commission of Moscow, Nikolai Ivanov, chairman of the Writers’ Union, Elena Shishkina, deputy of the People’s Council of the DPR, and military commander Alexander Kots.

As a rule, the annual meetings of the HRC with Vladimir Putin are held on December 10 (Human Rights Day). As Kommersant reported, this year it is planned to devote most of the reports to the military operations of the Russian army in Ukraine, as well as changes in legislation related to the special operation.
