On Friday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held the fifth meeting of the commission of the United Russia General Council headed by him on international cooperation and support for compatriots. At it, he promised to support party initiatives aimed at finding friends abroad, and even explained where exactly the latter should now be looked for: Russia is betting on expanding cooperation with African, Asian and Latin American countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs is confident that they will help our country in counteracting the “practices of neo-colonialism.”
Mr. Lavrov considers “very promising” the initiative of United Russia to hold in Moscow an international forum of supporters of the fight against modern practices of neo-colonialism – this initiative, the minister reminded the participants in the commission meeting on February 3, was supported by the president, and the Foreign Ministry is ready to assist its implementation in every possible way.
“It’s no secret that the consequences of colonialism, the vicious practice of its modern manifestations are one of the main reasons for the deep disproportions in the development of the states of our world,” recalled the head of Russian diplomacy.
Moreover, the crimes of the colonialists have no statute of limitations and forever deprive the Western elites of the right to claim any moral leadership, he said. In his opinion, the colonial instincts of the West have not disappeared anywhere: the US is trying to put pressure on those who do not agree to live according to their instructions.
In turn, Russia “finds understanding” in most countries of Asia, Latin America and Africa, Mr. Lavrov noted.
According to his calculations, three-quarters of the world’s states that retain dignity and independence have not joined the anti-Russian sanctions. It is with these countries that Moscow is now actively developing ties in all areas.
“We are consistently strengthening our strategic partnership with the PRC, relations with Beijing today are the best in history,” Sergei Lavrov delighted the United Russia people. Russia is building up cooperation with the countries of the “world majority” not only on a bilateral basis, but also within the framework of various multilateral structures, the Foreign Minister noted.
According to him, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are growing in popularity among developing countries, as they are a new type of associations that do not have the “stick discipline” as in NATO and the EU. Russia and a number of other states are consistently reducing their dependence on the US dollar, the foreign minister continued. “We are working together with like-minded people to convert international payments into national currencies, to create alternative payment and logistics systems so as not to depend on the whims and dictates of the country that has declared itself hegemon,” Mr. Lavrov reported. “In general, we are working on the formation of a more equitable global monetary, financial, trade and economic architecture, which objectively contributes to the fight against new manifestations of neo-colonialism”.
Parliamentary diplomacy is also called upon to make its contribution to the common work. Sergey Lavrov praised the Russian political structures for the established constructive contacts with foreign colleagues. The Foreign Ministry, he said, also supports the creation of the “Club of Russia’s Friends” platform, focused on promoting Russian culture and maintaining relations with Russia’s partners and colleagues abroad, as well as United Russia’s youth projects. Of these, Mr. Lavrov especially noted the action “People of Artek”, aimed at strengthening the connection between the children of our compatriots and their historical homeland. Recallthat the week before last, party leader Dmitry Medvedev called for more active interaction with the parties of “friendly” states (in particular, members of such organizations as ASEAN, BRICS and the African Union) at a meeting of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of United Russia.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President is now considering an updated Foreign Policy Concept of the Russian Federation and all new elements, as well as related tasks, are taken into account there.
He did not rule out that after the approval of this concept, it will be possible to separately consider those issues that may attract “additional attention” from the commission he heads.
