A new US national defense strategy could trigger the development of air and missile defense systems in Russia and China. This was stated by the head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis Alexander Mikhailov.
The Pentagon released a new version of the defense doctrine on October 27. China is named as the main challenge for the US in the document. Russia is considered an “acute threat”. At the same time, the Americans decided to decommission their most powerful nuclear warhead, the B83-1. And plans to create a sea-based nuclear cruise missile will remain on paper.
The United States also wants to begin preparations with Russia as soon as possible of a joint document on the extension of the treaty on the reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms. The previous contract ends in 2026. However, now the Americans want to make the agreement tripartite and include China in it.
The expert noted that, in general, the national defense strategy has not undergone significant changes. The main enemies there have been identified for a long time and for many years to come. At the same time, China appears as the main economic adversary. But Russia, as a country that threatens the very existence of the United States.
