Mikhail Zygar was fined again for failing to mark a foreign agent

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow imposed a fine of 30 thousand rubles. journalist and writer Mikhail Zygar (recognized as a foreign agent) for violating the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent (Part 4 of Article 19.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). According to the Human Rights Project “First Department”, a fine was imposed for the lack of “foreign agent” markings in the journalist’s posts on the Telegram channel. As the project notes, we are talking, among other things, about the reposting of news from the publication Meduza (recognized as an undesirable organization) on November 1.

Mikhail Zygyr does not agree with the court’s decision and will file an appeal, the First Department added. The lawyer noted that Roskomnadzor violated the journalist’s right to defense by “not sending information about the case, the time and place of drawing up the protocol to his present address.” After the start of the special operation, Mikhail Zygar left Russia for Germany.

On August 23, the Basmanny Court of Moscow fined Mikhail Zygar 30 thousand rubles. for a similar violation. The reason for drawing up the protocol was four posts in his Telegram channel.

Mikhail Zygar was added to the register of foreign agents on October 21, 2022. In December, he tried to challenge this decision, but the court rejected his claim. The reason for inclusion in the register, as explained by the court, was the receipt of royalties for the publication of books in Bulgaria and the USA, as well as an interview published on the Meduza website.
