Mikhail Telpin won the Nadezhda-2023 race by a wide margin

On Friday, April 7, in the village of Lorino, Chukotka region, the dog sled race “Nadezhda-2023” finished. As expected, the winner of the competition was Mikhail Telpin, who took the lead from the fourth stage and covered the entire route in 42 hours and 34 minutes. He will be awarded the main prize – a certificate for one million rubles, Chukotka news agency reports.

The ninth stage of “Nadezhda-2023” between the villages of Yanrakynnot, Providensky urban district and Lorino, Chukotsky district, completed the race. In front of the 90-kilometer section, the gap between Yanrakynnots Mikhail Telpin and the nearest pursuer was almost four hours, so there was practically no doubt about who would become the winner. As a result, Telpin’s team brought the musher the first place, a birthday cake from the inhabitants of the village of Lorino and the main prize – one million rubles.

The intrigue was the distribution of the following places. Before the last section of the track, Alexander Dolgodush from Lorino, who was on the fourth line in the overall standings, was less than 18 minutes behind Gennady Tomilov, who was in second place, and another Lorinian, Dmitry Kalyavukvun, was between them.

The organizers do not report the results of the ninth stage and its details, but the final places among the trio of Lorin mushers have changed. The team of Gennady Tomilov dropped from the intermediate second place to fourth, and the other two riders moved up one line. As a result, Dmitry Kalyavukvun took the silver of the race, and Alexander Dolgodushev closed the top three in the overall standings. On Saturday, April 8, at 14:00 in Lorino there will be a solemn ceremony of closing the race and awarding the mushers.

Recall that “Hope-2023” started on March 27 from the village of Inchoun, Chukotka region. The start of the competition was postponed for a day, because due to bad weather, the organizers and judges did not have time to arrive at the start site. There were 16 teams on the route. Most of the mushers were from the village of Lorino, five from Enurmino, three athletes represented Inchoun and two from Yanrakynnot. Soon there were 15 riders left – Roman Ankaroltyn from Enurma withdrew from the competition. In total, the mushers covered 626 kilometers from Inchoun to the village of Sireniki, Providensky urban district, where the teams turned in the opposite direction and finished in Lorino. Each of the nine stages was dedicated to the memory of the residents of the district who died during the special operation. The prize fund of the competition is more than 5 million rubles.
