Microsoft responds to FTC demand for Activision Blizzard deal

Thursday, December 22, Microsoft Corporation introduced its response to claims against it from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which wants to block the purchase of game developer Activision Blizzard by the company. Microsoft said the acquisition will not hurt competition.
About the upcoming purchase of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion by Microsoft announced in January. Activision Blizzard is one of the most famous video game developers with titles such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Candy Crush in its portfolio. Two weeks ago FTC filed a lawsuit demanding to block a deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. According to the regulator, Microsoft is trying to “restrain competition.” This week a group of gamers also filed a lawsuit to block the deal. Earlier, the EU and UK regulators launched an investigation into the deal.
Now the corporation has decided to prove that its purchase of Activision Blizzard will not hurt the competition in any way. Microsoft has said it has no intention of distributing new Activision Blizzard games exclusively through its services and has no plans to remove games from other stores. In addition, the company recalled that it previously invited one of the largest players in the video game market, Nintendo and Sony with its Xbox, to give the right to add the Call of Duty game to their subscriptions and game stores. Microsoft described itself as a “gaming console manufacturer” whose purchase of a game developer “could not fundamentally change this highly competitive industry.”
