Microsoft is cutting about 1.9 thousand employees in its gaming division, which includes Activision Blizzard, Xbox and ZeniMax, reports The Verge. In total, Microsoft Gaming now employs about 22 thousand people. This means that the staff will decrease by about 8%. At the same time, the reductions will mainly affect Activision Blizzard.
In addition, it became known that the head of the company, Mike Ibarra, is leaving Blizzard. “Mike worked at Microsoft for over 20 years. Now that he has become president of Blizzard, he has decided to leave the company,” Microsoft gaming division president Matt Booty said in a letter to employees. Microsoft plans to name the new president of Blizzard next week.
Chief designer Allen Adam, who was one of the company’s founders, will also leave Blizzard. In this regard, Activision is canceling the project to develop a survival simulator, which was supposed to be the company’s first new game since 2016, when the first part of the Overwatch series was released.
