According to the FT, Microsoft Corporation became the first major American investor in a new startup, entrepreneur Travis Kalanick, who once co-founded the taxi aggregator Uber. Mr. Kalanick’s project is called CloudKitchens and is a “ghost kitchen” (dark kitchen) – a service that prepares food only for delivery and does not have catering outlets.
The idea of such startups is no longer new, however, according to the FT, Travis Kalanick managed to raise $ 850 million from investors at the end of last year, and Microsoft became one of the investors. At one time, Microsoft was one of the first major investors in Uber – in 2015, it invested $ 100 million in the service.
Now the new company of the Uber co-founder, based in Los Angeles, is already valued at $15 billion. CloudKitchens employs more than 4 thousand employees not only in the US, but also in Latin America, the Middle East and the UK.
