Microsoft and OpenAl are discussing the Stargate data center project, which will include a supercomputer with specialized server chips to support artificial intelligence, reported The Information citing three sources. According to him, the project could cost up to $100 billion.

According to The Information’s interlocutors, Microsoft will likely finance the project. The publication notes that Stargate will be 100 times more expensive than some large-scale data centers. The project is expected to be the largest of a series of installations that Microsoft and OpenAl intend to create over the next six years. Microsoft plans to launch Stargate in 2028, and in 2026 the company wants to launch another supercomputer for OpenAl.

In January 2023, Microsoft announced about plans to increase investments in OpenAl, the creator of the ChatGPT chatbot. The media wrote that we could be talking about investing $10 billion, in particular, on the creation of supercomputers and developments in the field of AI. Prior to this, the corporation had already invested in OpenAl twice. Microsoft uses OpenAI technologies in its products, including the Bing search engine.
