Microsoft announced a hacker attack from Russia and did not provide evidence
Hackers broke into the corporate mailboxes of a number of Microsoft executives. This is stated in statement, published on the website of the American corporation. Russia was blamed for the cyber attack overseas.
“Microsoft Security discovered a state-sponsored attack on our enterprise systems on January 12, 2024… The attackers have been identified as Midnight Blizzard, a Russian state-sponsored organization also known as Nobelium,” Microsoft said. At the same time, the corporation did not bother to provide evidence of Russia’s involvement in supporting cybercriminals.
Microsoft also reported that the attackers used a password spray attack mechanism, thereby gaining access to an outdated account. Through it, hackers were able to hack into the corporate email accounts of corporate executives, as well as employees of the department responsible for cybersecurity. The corporation emphasized that the attack affected a very small percentage of records.
Microsoft noted that at this time there is no evidence that attackers have gained any access to production systems, user environments or artificial intelligence systems, and promised to notify if any action is required.
