Microbiologist and professor Ruben Chailakhyan, who studied stromal stem cells, died at the age of 86. As reported TASS in medical services, his body was found in a Moscow apartment on Academician Artsimovich Street.
Stromal stem cells can turn into cells of bone, cartilage, connective tissue, and form elements of blood vessels.
Ruben Chailakhyan was born in 1937 in Yerevan. In 1961 he graduated from the Kharkov Medical Institute. With his participation, cell technologies were first used in traumatology and orthopedics in Russia.
In his works, the microbiologist developed the idea of the clinical application of stromal stem cells. In recent years, Ruben Chailakhyan has worked as the head of the laboratory of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.
