Mickey Mouse, whose rights to Disney have expired, has become a character in a horror film
Disney’s rights to the Mickey Mouse character expired on January 1, 2024, after the 1928 cartoon Steamboat Willie became public domain. Shortly after this, a trailer for a horror film was published, where a maniac killer is hiding under the mask of a mouse.
The filmmakers stated that they were aiming to make a funny movie, and suggested that they could not achieve a “breakthrough in the arts” by using Mickey Mouse in his traditional role.
