Six pairs of former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Michael Jordan’s sneakers have been sold at auction. They cost the buyer a record $8.032 million, AFP reports, citing the Sotheby’s auction house.
The collection featured the sneakers that the basketball player wore in the decisive games for the NBA title. Jordan became an NBA champion from 1991-1993 and 1996-1998 with Chicago. He left his autograph on four pairs of sneakers. Sotheby’s said that the price paid for the basketball player’s shoes “is unlikely to ever be repeated.” The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed.
According to the portal ESPNonly the jersey from Jordan’s first game in the 1998 NBA finals was sold for more – it was bought for $10.1 million. A pair of the basketball player’s sneakers from the second game of the same final was sold for a record $2.2 million.
Michael Jordan retired in 2003. The athlete also has two victories in the Olympic Games (1984, 1992) as a member of the US team.
