The youth hockey team “Belgorod” will continue to work until the end of the season and the contracts of existing players in April 2023. This was announced by the mayor of the city Anton Ivanov.
After the specified period, the city administration plans to reformat the club into a junior hockey team. On a direct line on August 23, Anton Ivanov explained that in the form in which the team exists now, it is not rational to finance it from the city budget, informs BelPress. Pupils of the winter sports school who have reached the age of juniors have nowhere to go in Belgorod – they still cannot join the youth hockey team. As a result, the guys are forced to leave for other regions to play in junior hockey teams.
In Belgorod, they decided to eliminate this shortcoming and create a local junior team so that graduates of the sports school would not have to leave their hometown. The funds released from the financing of the MHC Belgorod will be used to support the junior team and help parents pay for trips to competitions.
