Mexican president says he has real photo of wood elf

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador caused a stir on social media over the weekend after he shared a photo of what he said is an “elf” sitting in a tree.

The head of state on Saturday posted on Twitter a photo of a mysterious animal with glowing eyes, as well as a photo of sculptures from Mayan archaeological sites.

He wrote that the photo “was taken three days ago by an engineer, looks like it’s an alux.”

“Alux” is a mythological forest spirit in the Maya culture, similar to an elf. According to legend, these creatures are invisible, but capable of appearing.

López Obrador, 69, who has over nine million followers on social media, quickly attracted the attention of netizens, who began to relentlessly mock him for his post.

According to Twitter, the photos posted by Lopez Obrador have been viewed 4.4 million times by users.

Reactions ranged from surprise to anger at López Obrador’s release of information about the mythical creature so openly.

“What a normal president, how great everything is, how timely and without false information,” wrote one person in a translated tweet.

Many have criticized the President, saying that he is completely lying about this story, referring to articles that were circulated two years ago with an image of an “elf”.

“Yes, Andres, an engineer three days ago took a photo that has been going round Nuevo Leon since February 2021, and Thailand since December of the same year. You are sad, very sad … and the country is even more … If you believe in that, you are stupid… if you know you are lying, you are malicious…” said another user.
