Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov Tikhon (Shevkunov), speaking about the situation in Ukraine, called what is happening a tragedy. He believes that peace is necessary, possible only by the will of God. A man cannot resolve this conflict, Metropolitan Tikhon noted.
“The fact that we are experiencing an unprecedented tragedy, that this is some absolutely fundamental and fateful stage in the life of our people, country, Ukraine, does not raise any doubt,” Metropolitan Tikhon said in program “Church and Peace” on the TV channel “Russia 24”.
“How will it all end?” – he asked himself a question and answered himself: “We will pray that, naturally, everything will end happily and in peace.”
“We need peace by the will of God,” he called the way out of the situation in Ukraine. “To resolve this issue, fights, hatred between brothers, well, they don’t want to call us brothers, we understand that they are brothers, and once they called us brothers recently, so a person cannot resolve, I am deeply convinced of this. Well, how can you resolve everything after all this. Only the Lord God can manage all this,” said Metropolitan Tikhon.
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, in a speech dedicated to the Day of National Unity, also mentioned conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the situation in this country confirms attempts to split the Orthodox. “And we grieve, pray and hope that the Lord will incline His mercy to the people of Ukraine, and therefore to all historical Rus’,” the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said then.
