Metallurg lost to CSKA in a KHL match

Metallurg’s home series continued with a game against the Moscow army team.

Compared to the previous meeting, there was only one replacement in the Magnitogorsk playing lineup, which touched the goalie line. Artem Zagidulin, who stood at the last line in the match with SKA, gave way to Ilya Nabokov.

The score in the match was opened in the eighth minute. CSKA took advantage of the loss of the puck, organized a counterattack and took the lead after a goal by young player Egor Solovyov, who was playing his first match in the KHL.

In the second period, Metallurg intensified the pressure on the visitors’ goal, but the puck stubbornly missed the target, and the army goalkeeper also successfully eliminated the threat. Having failed to convert their chances, Magnitogorsk got the second puck in the middle of the third period. This time Frederic Claesson scored.

CSKA acted quite competently in its own zone, not giving the opponent a lot of free ice and room for action, and Fedotov “cleaned up” everything else. Two minutes before the end of the match, Metallurg replaced the goalkeeper with a sixth fielder and received the third puck into an empty net.

“It turned out to be a very strange game, with the score 0:0, 0:1, we played well in their zone, CSKA had chances on counterattacks mostly. And from the outside it seemed that there was nothing wrong, we missed a goal, but continued to play in that zone. Second period too. And when the score became 0:2, it seemed necessary to add more and put pressure on their goal, but it turned out that we played almost the entire third period at our own goal,” noted Alexey Maklyukov.

The result was a 3:0 defeat, which was the third in a row for Metallurg. The team has one match left before the big break. On December 7, Magnitogorsk will meet with Torpedo.
