Metallurg lost to Avangard for the second time this season

Metallurg began a short two-game home series. The teams exchanged goals several times and played until overtime, where Omsk were stronger. Valery Orekhov and Egor Yakovlev scored for Magnitogorsk.

For the home game, the Metallurg coaching staff again entrusted Ilya Nabokov with a place in goal. The lineup also included Luke Johnson and Semyon Koshelev. Maxim Mukhametov and Arkhip Nekolenko did not play.

The first period did not bring any goals, despite dangerous moments and positional attacks performed by each team. In the second period, Magnitka continued its attack on the opponents’ goal. And, in the end, the hosts’ efforts resulted in results – in the 26th minute, Valery Orekhov managed to break through the Omsk goalkeeper. The opponent had a chance to even the score when Magnitka found itself in the minority. Valentin Pyanov turned out to be the quickest on the spot and sent the puck into the hosts’ goal.

Three minutes later, the Magnitogorsk team took the lead again. Captain Egor Yakovlev opened the scoring for the season. However, six seconds before the end of the period, the score on the scoreboard changed again – Avangard was able to equalize – 2:2. The puck hit Nabokov’s goal after bouncing off the stick of one of the Metallurg players.

At the end of the game period, the hosts also earned themselves a penalty, so Magnitogorsk started the third twenty minutes in the minority, but the players managed to fight back. However, in the 43rd minute the Omsk team still took the lead. At the equator of the period, the Magnitogorsk team restored goal equality. It was 3:3 on the scoreboard after the effective actions of Denis Zernov, Maxim Karpov and Valery Orekhov, who scored a double in the match.

The teams had to play in overtime. The Avangard coaches changed the goalkeeper to the fourth outfielder almost from the first seconds. “Magnitka” quickly adjusted to the unexpected decision of the mentors, but the numerical superiority still played a role. Reed Boucher scored the winning goal for Omsk.

The result was a defeat in overtime 3:4. Magnitka will play its next match on October 25. Andrei Razin’s team has a chance to take revenge on Traktor for their recent defeat in Chelyabinsk.
