Meta accused of ignoring human trafficking and pedophilia on her social media

Several pension and investment funds holding shares in Meta (described as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) have accused the company of ignoring the criminal activity carried out on its social networks and, as a result, of failing to protect the interests of shareholders. The corresponding lawsuit was filed on Monday in the Delaware Administrative Court, reports Reuters.

The plaintiffs accuse Mark Zuckerberg and other Meta executives of “turning a blind eye” to human trafficking and child sexual exploitation that is carried out through the social networks Facebook and Instagram. As noted in the lawsuit, it was filed on the basis that the board failed to explain to shareholders how it intends to solve this problem. “The only logical conclusion is that the board deliberately decided to allow the Meta platforms to promote and facilitate human trafficking, including for the purpose of sexual exploitation,” the lawsuit says.

In a statement in response, Meta denied all allegations: “We unequivocally prohibit human exploitation and the sexual exploitation of children. The allegations contained in this lawsuit misrepresent our efforts to combat this type of activity. Our goal is to prevent people who seek to exploit others from using our platform.”
