German automaker Mercedes-Benz got interested technology from the Korean company PiQuant, which will allow drivers to be tested for the amount of alcohol in their blood. Unlike other similar proposed sensors that are configured to test breath, the technology will detect drunk drivers using a fingerprint scanner.

According to the developers, the technology can be built into the engine start button, and then drivers under the influence of alcohol will not be able to start the car. In combination with a fingerprint scanner, it will be possible to prevent the use of a sober neighbor to undergo the verification process.

Mercedes-Benz is also interested in another Korean development from JD Solution, which, using directed acoustic waves, will generate sound only in the direction of the driver. This will be needed, for example, so that only the driver, and not the passengers of the car, hears hints on the road.
