The European Union is putting pressure on the Serbian authorities, trying to get them to adjust their foreign policy in the interests of Brussels. This statement was made on Tuesday, May 9, by French MEP Thierry Mariani.

The MEP noted that “Brussels would like to cut off the historical friendship between Serbia and Russia, imposing, in particular, its international policy.”

The Serbian authorities have repeatedly stressed that they will be guided by national interests in the issue of sanctions against the Russian Federation, to which Belgrade does not seek to join. At the same time, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said about constant pressure and ultimatums from Western politicians who seek to force Belgrade to join the anti-Russian restrictions.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov expressed his understanding of the foreign policy situation, in which Serbia found itselfand said that Moscow expects that the previous character and tone of the dialogue with Belgrade will continue.
