Medvedev will head the Security Council commission to combat biosecurity threats

President Vladimir Putin signed a decree establishing an interdepartmental Security Council commission to counter threats to biological security. The commission will be headed by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
The document was abolished and another commission, headed by Dmitry Medvedev, was abolished: on the creation of a national system of protection against new infections. Its functions were transferred to the new structure.
What functions will the commission have: assessment of threats to biological safety; scientific research in the field of biotechnology development; determination of state policy in the field of biosafety; developing measures to prevent and eliminate biological threats, as well as countering the policies of other states that threaten national interests.
Meetings of the commission will be held at least once every six months. If necessary, more often. The commission will include the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economic Development, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, heads of Rospotrebnadzor, Rosselkhoz and others.
Russian authorities have made frequent statements about biological threats in the first half of 2022. In April, at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on the creation of a national system of protection against new infections, Dmitry Medvedev announced a network of US biological laboratories in Ukraine.
