Medvedev threatened violators of the Russian presidential elections with an article on treason

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in Telegramthat people who committed crimes at polling stations during the presidential elections in the Russian Federation can be charged under the article on treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code).

“All scoundrels who commit crimes at or near polling stations (arson, vandalism, etc.) must remember that they can be held accountable not under Art. 141 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights or the work of election commissions.” They are traitors, and their actions can be classified much more strictly: according to Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – high treason in the form of providing any assistance to a foreign state during a war,” wrote the deputy chairman of the Security Council.

Dmitry Medvedev said that violators may also be charged with articles of the Criminal Code provided for in Chapter 29 of the Criminal Code on crimes against the foundations of the constitutional order and state security.

Earlier today, March 16, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova reportedthat during the presidential elections, which started on March 15, in 20 regions at 29 polling stations there were attempts to set fire to or damage boxes with ballots. According to her, there were eight attempts at arson, and 214 ballots were irretrievably damaged.
