The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in an article for Izvestia, expressed the key points of Moscow’s position on resolving the crisis in the Middle East.
According to him, Russia wants to resume the negotiation process on the Middle East settlement. President Vladimir Putin has already expressed this initiative, emphasizing the importance of a diplomatic settlement of the conflict, Medvedev recalled.
He also said that a draft UN Security Council resolution proposed by the Russian side calling for a ceasefire and the start of negotiations between the parties to the conflict was rejected. Medvedev noted that opposition to this resolution was provided by Moscow’s eternal opponents, among which the United States and Great Britain stand out.
Despite the failure of this initiative in the UN Security Council, Russia remains constructive and ready to consider various scenarios for the development of events, he concluded.
