Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev proposed, in response to sanctions, to legalize access to the intellectual property of Western countries without a license in the country and thanked those who developed pirated versions of programs.
“It remains only to adopt rules on the use of their intellectual property. Without any licenses and payment of royalties. This, among other things, will be our retaliatory sanctions on their property rights. For everything from movies to industrial software. Thanks, by the way, to those who have developed various programs for the unlicensed use of their expensive intellectual products,” wrote he is in his Telegram channel.
The “hellish” sanctions of the West, according to the ex-president, failed, since most industrial products and consumer goods were replaced by non-Western counterparts or continued to be imported through parallel imports. As a result, Medvedev added, American companies are making money off of Europe, while the EU is “tolerating and losing money.”
Formerly Roskomnadzor informed, which received nearly 20% more copyright claims in 2022 than a year earlier, with nearly 350,000 sites containing pirated content receiving preliminary injunctive relief. The press service also noted that last year 12,500 rulings of the Moscow City Court and 38,000 applications from copyright holders for copyright protection on the Internet were received.
