Medvedev commented on the demolition of monuments with a quote from the “White Guard”

After the demolition of the monuments to the poet Alexander Pushkin and the commander Alexander Suvorov, Ukraine may erect monuments to the hetmans, expressed assumption in his Telegram channel of the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

“In Little Russia, the monuments to Pushkin and Suvorov were demolished. Who will bet? Probably various hetmans,” he wrote. He noted that he had nothing to add to what “Kievite Mikhail Bulgakov” said about the hetmans in the “White Guard” and quoted it.

“I would have your hetman,” shouted the elder Turbin, “for the organization of this pretty Ukraine, I would hang him first! Hai live vilna Ukraine view of Kyiv to Berlin! For six months he mocked Russian officers, mocked all of us. Who forbade the formation of the Russian army? Hetman. Who terrorized the Russian population with this vile language, which does not even exist in the world? Hetman. Who spread this scum with tails on their heads? Hetman…”

Earlier in the day, RIA Novosti, citing Verkhovna Rada deputy Larisa Belozir, reported that monuments to Pushkin and Suvorov were dismantled in the city of Tulchin, Vinnitsa region of Ukraine.

November 30 Odessa City Council voted for the dismantling of monuments to the Russian Empress Catherine II and Suvorov.

August 25 Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko informedthat the city administration renamed 95 streets, lanes and squares whose names are associated with Russia or the USSR. The list of the most common Russian names that are used as toponyms and are subject to renaming in the first place was prepared by the expert council of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture in early August. The list includes cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, poet Alexander Pushkin, plant breeder Ivan Michurin, test pilot Valery Chkalov, writer Maxim Gorky, commander Alexander Suvorov, poets Mikhail Lermontov and Vladimir Mayakovsky, Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov and cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov.
