Ukraine’s attempt to retake Crimea will be the basis for the use of any weapon by the Russian side. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev during an interview with Russian media.
“If we talk about some serious offensives that are associated with an attempt to retake Crimea, it is clear that this is the basis for the use of all means of protection,” he said.
He explained that “an attempt to split off part of the state means that this is an encroachment on the existence of the state itself.” Medvedev also noted that the statements of Ukrainian politicians about the return of Crimea should be treated as propaganda, which is always there during hostilities.
Medvedev has repeatedly pointed to Russia’s ability to use nuclear weapons in the event of a threat to Russia’s existence. In particular, on March 22 he notedthat the threat of nuclear conflict has not passed, but has increased. According to Medvedev, every day the West delivers weapons to Kyiv, the “nuclear apocalypse” is closer.
In September 2022, Medvedev also warned Western countries from deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Medvedev recalled that Russia can use nuclear weapons in strict accordance with the fundamentals of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence. Also, Moscow can do this in response to an attack by the country or its allies using this type of weapon. In the Kremlin emphasizedthat Medvedev referred to doctrinal documents.
