In the Russian armed forces in 2024, it is planned to form another army corps, seven divisions, 19 brigades, 49 regiments and one flotilla. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced this at a meeting on issues of staffing the Armed Forces with military personnel. A video recording of Mr. Medvedev’s speech was published in his Telegram channel.
“In this regard, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief decided to continue work on replenishing the armed forces with contract soldiers in 2024,” he added. Since the beginning of 2023, as the deputy chairman of the Security Council said, almost 385 thousand people have entered military service. Of these, 305 thousand are contract soldiers and about 80 thousand are volunteers.
Dmitry Medvedev said that these decisions are related to the tense situation “in the world and around Russia.” The expansion and increase in the size of the armed forces, he said, will be carried out to “protect the independence and security” of the country.
