Medinsky will lead a working group to create a new school history textbook

The head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, said on Sunday that a working group to create a new school history textbook would be headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, TASS reports.
According to Kravtsov, it will take about a year to write the textbook.
“Today it was decided that Vladimir Rostislavovich Medinsky will head the working group as the head of the working group on historical education,” Kravtsov’s agency quotes.
According to the minister, the textbook is not being created from scratch. Kravtsov explained that history textbooks written “under the editorship of Anatoly Vasilyevich Torkunov” and “other textbooks” could be taken as a basis.
On December 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the appearance of new school textbooks on history and social science a matter of national importance.
Kravtsov reported that the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation was developing a new school textbook on history. He also noted that a meeting of the State Council commission was held, at which the unification of “General History” and “History of Russia” into one course was supported.
