Assistant to the President of Russia Vladimir Medinsky proposed combining social studies and history in the main and unified state exams. According to him, this can be done by adding questions related to social studies to the Unified State Examination and the Unified State Examination in history. He said that many employees of ministries and departments propose to eliminate social studies as a “harmful” subject.

“Ultimately, ideally, in my opinion, it would be good for us to make a single Unified State Exam and Unified State Exam in history and social studies. Just add questions related to social studies. I will not hide the fact that many employees of ministries and departments offer this subject (social studies.— “Kommersant”) to be eliminated as harmful… Let’s see, we’ll try to preserve it,” said the presidential aide at a meeting with teachers of history and social studies, as well as teachers of social and political sciences at the Kazan Federal University (quote from TASS).

On February 22, the Ministry of Education prepared a draft order, which proposes to exclude social studies from the school curriculum in grades 6-8, and also reduce the amount of time for studying this subject in the ninth and tenth grades to one lesson per week. Using the freed up time, the department proposed increasing the number of hours for studying history by one and a half times.
