Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky agreed with the United States and Great Britain on a new offensive in the Kherson and Zaporozhye directions in early October. About it reports RIA Novosti with reference to the source.
“For these purposes, a large group of Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is concentrated in the Nikolaev region to cross the Dnieper River. At the same time, the special forces of the special operations forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, trained by British instructors, are planning actions to seize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant,” the agency writes.
On September 20, Zelensky said in an interview with CNN that he does not know whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to achieve significant success in the counteroffensive by the end of the year. He noted that he expected a positive decision from the United States on the supply of long-range ATACMS missiles. Otherwise, he said, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have “more casualties on the battlefield.”
Formerly Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan statedthat Washington will not yet supply ATACMS tactical missiles to Kyiv, but does not remove this from consideration in the future. At the same time, the American media wrotethat all relevant departments approved the sending of ATACMS to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been actively attacking since the beginning of June. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously called the offensive “not a slippage, but a failure.” In early September, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu notedthat Ukraine has not achieved its goals in any of the areas.
